now that 2012 has found its way here

it has me thinking a lot about what i can do

to make it the best year yet.

bennett has been calling 2012

the year of progress and preparation

and i like that.

we want to keep progressing towards becoming the type of people we want to be

and we're also preparing for what's ahead of us.

my goals for 2012:

1. yoga

now if i said i'd do yoga everyday then i'd be setting myself up for disappointment. i doubt i would do it even every other day. but i want to make it a priority. and i want to become more familiar and comfortable with it. i want to feel healthy.

i promise!

it's just been so hectic lately with the big move

and we are kind of jumping from house to house

so it may be a little while until we can settle

and i can start blogging again.

in 2011,

i went back to honeymoon island,

turned 22,

and decided i want to be a doula.

i went to hilton head with steph and ellen,

made our wedding invitations,

and went on a perfect date.

we signed the lease for our first home,

took little jack to the zoo,

and i was thrown a wonderful bachelorette party.

i watched bennett graduate,

had my senior art show,

and married my best friend.

we spent 2 weeks in europe,

went to outdoor movies,

and became addicted to pinterest.

we went canoeing,

i surprised bennett for his birthday,

and i dressed up as a mormon mommy fashion blogger for halloween.

we spent fall break camping with karlie and drew,

i graduated from college,

and we had our first christmas as husband and wife.

i said goodbye to my family and friends,

and moved to florida.

2011,

you have been so good to me.

2012,

i can't wait to see what you have in store...

my final portfolio has been reviewed

i passed my praxis exams

and i am graduating cum laude this friday.

the move

we're moving in 23 days

and we haven't even started packing.

our apartment is a wreck.

we hardly have any money.

there's something in the fridge that's been there for a little too long i think.

and we're not even quite sure where we're going to live

or if we have have jobs when we get to tampa.

but i am unbelievably happy.

i come home to my husband every day

and we laugh

and play text twist on the computer for way too long

and drink cheap wine

and try our best to prepare for what's next.

and you know what?

i kind of like being poor.

it makes us realize what we really need

and what we can do without.

i'll miss this little place.

it was our first home together.

but i'm excited to see where we'll end up next...

back home

i had the most relaxing and wonderful thanksgiving break

although it wasn't nearly long enough.

we spent the week at callaway gardens with bennett's family

and it was so lovely.

we ate a delicious thanksgiving lunch

drank a lot of wine

ate a lot of leftovers

rode bikes

went to antique stores

and went on a christmas lights tour.

i brought my camera along and never even touched it

so these crappy phone pictures will have to do...

i cannot believe thanksgiving is tomorrow.

how are we here already!?

i have so many things to be thankful for this year.

so many.

i get to wake up on thanksgiving morning next to my husband.

in the same bed.

not two states away.

he is healthy.

no more surgeries.

no more cysts.

no more worries.

we are moving to tampa in 5 weeks

and i might have a temporary job already lined up.

we both have amazing parents who put us through college debt free

and have always provided for us

and loved us unconditionally.

i graduate in 26 days.

finally.

i married my best friend.

and i fall more and more madly in love with him

every. single. day.

we have our whole lives to look forward to.

finding jobs.

getting a house.

having babies.

growing old together.

the list could go on and on.

i am so happy

and so thankful

and so incredibly blessed.

6 months ago today

i stood next to my father behind two large wooden doors.

i heard the piano begin

i took a deep breath

and the doors opened.

there

at the end of the aisle

stood my sweet bennett.

i barely remember anything.

not the people

not the photographer

not the temperature of the chapel.

all i remember is the way the music sounded in my ears

the way the sunlight poured through the windows

and the way it felt to lock eyes with him

knowing he was my husband

and my best friend

and he would love me

and keep me safe

till death do us part.

i remember choking through my vows

and the way it felt to finally kiss my husband.

i remember walking back down the aisle

hand in hand

and being led to a room

so we could have a few minutes to ourselves.

but most of all

i remember that door shutting behind us

and how the tears streamed down our cheeks

and we were so incredibly happy

words cannot even explain it.

these past 6 months have been the most challenging

and the most rewarding months of my life.

we have grown closer than i knew possible.

some days i love him so much

that it hurts.

it honest to goodness hurts.

i can't imagine my life without him.

we've had a gray sky over nashville the past few days

which is making it very hard to not think about christmas all day everyday.

so here are a few christmasy things to help get you in the mood...

one of my friends is posting gift guides over on her blog (i would kill for that pendleton serving platter)

oh, and she makes beautiful music, too.

bennett and i picked our child from the angel tree to get presents for this christmas. check it out here if you are unfamiliar with the angel tree. i've done it every year with my family, and now bennett and i are carrying on the tradition. it feels so amazing to help out a family in need.

umm... how about the civil wars christmas ep tracks in the snow? can't wait.

and of course pinterest. so many good craft/gift/decoration/winter style ideas!

a serious post

i feel like my life right now is in one giant pickle.

bennett and i are great.

we've never been better.

but we have no stability.

right now, we're living off his jimmy johns pay

which is next to nothing

and i can't work because student teaching takes over my life.

so here's the thing...

i graduate in 6 weeks

(thank GOD)

and bennett will be finding out in march if he gets into grad school.

so we're considering going ahead and moving in january

so we can live with his family for a couple months to save some money

which will allow us to look for jobs, find a house, etc.

the problem is,

i have no idea what to do.

i've never had a "real" job.

it's always been babysitting, nannying, or a summer job.

my degree will be in art education,

but it's very unlikely i'll find a teaching position beginning in january.

i want to make things.

i want to make beautiful things for people.

i want to take photographs.

i want to utilize my creativity.

i want to play with children.

i want to do what i love,

and love what i do.

why does that seem so impossible?

i don't think i'm ready to be a teacher yet.

maybe next fall i will be, but not now.

so what do i do in the meantime?

how do i find a full time job that i will love to do,

and at the same time,

make enough money to support us?

i've been reading etsy's quit your day job posts,

and they're so inspiring.

but in order to get to that point

i need to focus on one thing,

perfect it,

then peruse it.

in the perfect world

we would have some babies,

bennett would get his phd in philosophy and not have to work at the same time,

i would stay home and make things all day,

and money would never be an issue.

until that happens,

i guess i'll have to figure something out...

can you believe it is already november?

last night we made mulled red wine

and listend to nat king cole

and bing crosby christmas records

and i might have (i definitely) cried.

not because i was sad.

definitely not because i was sad.

but because it is now the holiday season

and i am not dreading being apart from bennett

for thanksgiving and christmas.

we finally get to spend them together.

we get to watch the macy's thanksgiving day parade in our pajamas

and decorate our little christmas tree

and watch a million christmas movies

and wake up on christmas morning,

not in different states,

but in the same bed.

november, i am glad you're here.

then on saturday,

we went with my mom to the downtown franklin pumpkin fest.

we had so much fun eating and drinking and walking around.

several people recognized bennett's costume

but no one really knew mine...

which, heck, i was totally fine with : )

happy list

can you believe october is almost over?

i can't.

i feel like just yesterday i was counting down the days until my wedding

and now here i am, almost at our 6 month anniversary.

time flies when you're having fun.

a little happy list:

- in 7 weeks i will be done student teaching and i will graduate. FINALLY.

-we got our pumpkins from the farmer's market yesterday. it took me 30 minutes to pick out the perfect one. (i am very, very picky when it comes to pumpkins)

- the downtown franklin pumpkinfest is saturday, aka my favorite day of autumn.

- st. germaine cocktails

- long nights of red wine and text twist with my husband.

- christmas music. so soon.

-the new feist album, metals. major girl crush...

experimenting with encaustic

yesterday i did my first encaustic painting

and i am now obsessed.

encaustic painting is basically painting with hot wax

but you can add pigment to it

and layer in other things like tracing paper

found objects

and so much more.

it is really fun to work with

and there is so much you can do with it!

camping was a blast.

we pitched our tent where we weren't allowed

and rock climbed

and peed in the woods

and made a fire

and told ghost stories

and ate hobos in the campfire

and s'mores (duh)

and then all 4 of us crammed into one tent

snuggled up real close

and went to sleep.

fall break

my fall break starts tomorrow

and i could not be more excited!

we are spending 2 days with karlie and her boyfriend drew!

friday night we'll be running around chattanooga

and saturday we're going camping at stone door

(the best part? all 4 of us will be cramming into one tent!)

after that

bennett and i are spending a couple days in a cabin at fall creek falls

where we're going to hike

and canoe

and sit by the fireplace

and listen to records

and drink wine.

i could not be more excited about spending the next few days

with some of my favorite friends

and my favorite husband

enjoying my favorite season.

i've been listening to this movie's soundtrack about 10 times a day.

wine and cheese night

last night

we poured a couple glasses of merlot

and munched on cheese and crackers

asparagus

summer sausage

and bread and olive oil with herbs.

then we watched

it's the great pumpkin, charlie brown.

it was a most delicious autumn night.

birthday gifts

when bennett got home from work thursday night

it was already his birthday since it was past midnight.

and since i knew his friends were going to be here all weekend

(but he didn't know!)

i decided to give him his gifts the night before the big day!

i handed him a glass of wine as he walked in and told him to close his eyes.

when he opened them all the lights were off,

i had the record player going with this album,

and this star projector was projecting stars all over the room

(which i put together using chinese instructions. wife of the year?)

he was so surprised and so excited

i mean,

queen is his all time favorite band

and since we love stargazing

the star projector is perfect!

i also made him a birthday booklet

since i've promised him to never buy him a card...

bennett's surprise birthday weekend

so bennett's birthday was friday.

that morning, he left for work thinking he would come home and i might have some things planned here or there...

but little did he know i had several of his best friends from florida come up to surprise him.

he came home from work that afternoon and i told him to close his eyes.

when he opened them, all of his friends were in a pyramid on our bedroom floor.

bennett dropped his keys and almost started crying.

it was priceless.

he literally had no idea.

so we spent the entire weekend going to parks,

eating really good food (here and here),

canoeing,

dancing at trashy bars downtown,

and some good old fashioned frisbee in the street.

in a nutshell,

bennett had the best weekend of his life

and it made me so happy to see him so happy.

last night my parents came over for dinner

to celebrate bennett's birthday

(which is on friday)

and we made tacos and orangina margaritas.

oh man.

it was so good.

and then it got even better

because i have the best parents in the world.

and my dad got bennett a complete tool set with a tool box and everything.

and they gave me an early graduation present which i'm typing on now.

that's right.

a macbook pro.

i am in love.

i love my parents

and i love my husband

and i love my new computer.

- i am happiest when i am wrapped up in a comforter and it is raining outside
- i could drink gallons of italian grapefruit soda at a time
- i am almost finished student teaching at my first placement and this makes me really sad
- my favorite thing to read is birth stories
- we are moving at the end of december, and i am scared shitless
(pardon my language, but i am)
- move over white wine, red is now my favorite
- i hate eating leftovers
- we already have all of our future children's names picked out
- if i hear chritmas music when it's not christmas, i almost cry
- my favorite thing to do right now is walk with bennett at radnor lake.

taco night

since bennett and i are becoming quite the cooks

joke... but we're trying

we decided to make tacos the other night.

the were so delicious!
and it was really pretty simple.
we seasoned beef and put them in hard taco shells
with cheese,
mexican roasted corn,
lettuce,
bennett's special chili sour cream,
and topped it off with taco sauce.

although, i will say
the orangina margaritas were my favorite part.
i'll have to post that recipe sometime
because they were to die for
...i might have had more than one.
