a little camping trip

hooray for 3 day weekends!

today is my last day of teaching for the week

so we're going camping tomorrow

to get our minds off the fact that we're still waiting

to hear about grad school for bennett.

this waiting game is exhausting.

it's kind of (most certainly) driving both of us nuts.

it will be nice to get outdoors for a bit

to clear our heads

and do something other than check his email

every 20 minutes.

camping

camping was a blast.

we pitched our tent where we weren't allowed

and rock climbed

and peed in the woods

and made a fire

and told ghost stories

and ate hobos in the campfire

and s'mores (duh)

and then all 4 of us crammed into one tent

snuggled up real close

and went to sleep.

fall break

my fall break starts tomorrow

and i could not be more excited!

we are spending 2 days with karlie and her boyfriend drew!

friday night we'll be running around chattanooga

and saturday we're going camping at stone door

(the best part? all 4 of us will be cramming into one tent!)

after that

bennett and i are spending a couple days in a cabin at fall creek falls

where we're going to hike

and canoe

and sit by the fireplace

and listen to records

and drink wine.

i could not be more excited about spending the next few days

with some of my favorite friends

and my favorite husband

enjoying my favorite season.

sand gnats and sun burn

i am back from my camping adventure

....and it sure was an adventure.

we went to st. george island

and hiked 2.5 miles to the primitive camping spot

which was at the tip of the island.

we set up camp, made dinner, and got some sleep.

the next day we went exploring along the beach which was nice

but we forgot to put on sunscreen so we both got really sunburnt.

right before the sun went down we made a fire and cooked some dinner

but as the sun descended so did the plague.

the plague of sand gnats.

(also known as no-see-ums)

it was HORRIBLE.

we had to keep moving because if we stood still for 2 seconds they would attack.

we decided to shut ourselves in the tent to keep from being eaten alive

but they started finding their way in.

there was NO way to get away from them!

finally, i cried out that i wanted to go home

so we packed up all of our stuff

(while running around in circles because we couldn't stand still)

and practically ran the 2.5 miles back to our car.

it was seriously something out a movie, or the bible.

for those of you who watch lost, the gnats were comparable to the black smoke.

yes, they were that horrible.

so now we are home

our faces and shoulders peeling

and our legs and arms covered in itchy red spots

i'll post some of the polaroids i took later on.

i hope everyone had a lovely easter

filled with chocolate bunnies and plastic easter grass

a camping we will go

bennett and i are taking a little vacation tomorrow

and we're going camping!

on the beach!

i can't wait to play in the ocean all day

and then cook dinner over a fire at night.

and by camping i mean the real deal,

like we have to bring toilet paper

and pee behind trees

and we won't have water

and i won't be able to fix my hair
